Abstract
The authors studied the effect of LRH and TRH on human growth hormone in schizophrenics and normal controls. The subject was consisted of 18 cases of schizophrenic patients which diagnoses were made in accordance with the criteria of the DSM-1 (1979). Control group was consisted of 9 cases of normal volunteer.
The results were as follows:
1. Before administration of LRH and TRH, mean serum hGH levels of both schizophrenics and control groups were revealed to be within normal range.
2. Following the administration of the LRH, mean serum hGH levels of schizophrenics were 1. 33¡¾1.65ng/ml at 15 minutes, 3.45¡¾4.48ng/ml at 30 minutes, 3.36¡¾2.97ng/ml ati 60 minutes and 4. 78¡¾6.24ng/ml at 120 minutes. The mean serum h GH levels of coAtrol group were 5. 78 ¡¾ 4. 96ng/ml, 4. 99 ¡¾ 5. 24ng/ml, 1. 34 ¡¾1. 55ng/ml and 1. 38 ¡¾ 2. 67ng/ml at 15, 30, 60, 120 minutes in serial after admisnistration of LRH, and at 15 minutes statistically different from that of the schizophrenics (p<. 01).
3. In the TRH tests done, the mean hGH levels of schizophrenics were 4.08¡¾5. 13ng/ml at 15 minutes, 3. 79¡¾5. 03ng/ml at 30 minutes, 3.42¡¾3. 70ng/ml at 60 minutes and 3.82¡¾ 4.08ng/ml at 120 minutes. And there significantly different hGH levels at 60 and 120 minutes between two groups (p<.05).
4. The fingdings of our study were suggested that these results indicated a dysfunction in the mechanism regulating hGH secretion in schizophrenics.
